Tree Lighting Ceremony / November 28, 4-9pm, tree lighting at 5:30pm

Ghirardelli Square hosts the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony where visitors can take part in the Ghirardelli Square’s gift to the city at this very special event that has become a tradition for many Bay Area families.

Festivities will include live music, children’s entertainment and a visit from Santa.

Here is a quick breakdown of the event:


4pm: Lola Toy Stop gives gifts to kids 12 and under (while supplies last)

5pm: Santa arrives onsite

5:30pm: Tree Lighting with Christina Loren as emcee

6pm: Social media winner announced

6:15-7:45pm: Kevin Toqe & Band performance

8-9pm: Delphi performance


La Cocina vendors will be serving food for sale in the Upper Plaza. Wattle Creek will serve mulled wine and The Pub will serve Irish coffees outside of Wattle Creek in the Fountain Plaza. Alcohol free beverages will also be sampled.

El Mercado will transform beloved Bay Area landmark Ghirardelli Square into a pop-up winter bazaar featuring local artisans and craftsmen. Whether you’re a long time San Franciscan looking to dig deeper into our local culture or just visiting, at El Mercado you’ll discover the perfect gift for the holidays. With handcrafted jewelry, hands-on tamale making classes, and fresh vinyl from local labels, there’s something for everyone at El Mercado.

While you peruse, enjoy great food from La Cocina’s local entrepreneurs and artisanal products from businesses in the San Francisco Economic Development Alliance (SFEDA), and a selection representing cultures from around the globe. Join us December 5-7th for a weekend of shopping, learning, and fun!


Friday Night: O, Mole Night Kick-Off Dinner

Join us for a Friday night kick-off with Mission-based non-profit kitchen incubator La Cocina, featuring high-profile chefs like James Beard Award winner and Top Chef contestant Traci des Jardins as they collaborate with La Cocina’s female entrepreneurs. Together, these chefs will make every variety of mole imaginable from the famous Mexican chocolate variety, to Pan-Asian interpretations, and everything in between. Holy Mole, indeed! Saturday: 11am-8pm

Sunday: 11am-6pm

Step up your holiday shopping game with 40 local businesses selling everything from locally crafted jewelry, screen-printed clothes, artisan Brazilian caramels, Irish shortbread, and everything in between. While you peruse the bazaar, enjoy a selection of dishes from every corner of the globe including Indian samosas, Southern fried chicken, Nepalese dumplings, and Guanajuatan quesadillas. Toddler Time at Ghirardelli Square / Thursdays, 11am–1pm

Toddler Time has been cancelled from 11/20-12/4. We will start back up after Thanksgiving. Happy Holidays!

Calling children of all ages to join us in the West Plaza every Thursday from 10am–noon for free children’s entertainment. New performers or activities will be available each week. Come on over for face painting, story time, bubbles and more!

Light the Menorah / December 16th

Ghirardelli Square hosts the Annual Light the Menorah Celebration where visitors can join Rabbi Peretz Mochkin in lighting the 1st candle of the Menorah – a celebration for the entire family.

UnCorked Wine Festival / May

Ghirardelli Square hosts the annual UnCorked Wine Festival where we bring over 50 top-tier wineries, live entertainment, cooking demonstrations by top San Francisco chefs, and wine education seminars. Uncorked partners with local nonprofit organization, Save The Bay, and will donate a portion of proceeds raised from ticket sales to support the organization’s efforts to protect, restore, and celebrate the San Francisco Bay.

Independence Day / July 4

Ghirardelli Square is center stage to San Francisco’s July 4 celebration. The city sets off fireworks from the end of the Municipal Pier and from barges north of Pier 39. Best places to watch (from land): Aquatic Park (Jefferson and Hyde streets), the Cannery, Ghirardelli Square, other waterfront spots at Fisherman’s Wharf, and Coit Tower.

Chocolate Festival / September

Ghirardelli Chocolate Company hosts the annual Chocolate Festival benefiting Project Open Hand every September at Ghirardelli Square. This two-day celebration of chocolate will feature sampling by some of the finest local dessert companies and of course Ghirardelli Chocolate! Come enjoy live music, chef demonstrations, ice cream eating contests and more.
